Mental Illness: Know the Signs
The lack of education on mental illnesses leaves families clueless and already vulnerable people farther behind.

Missing Signs

1 in 5 Americans have a mental illness that can range from mild to severe, but people and their families often don't know how to help. They often see the signs long after they've appeared and long after the person should've received help. Seeing signs early allows people to get help early on, before the illness gets worse and becomes severe.

Discrimination From Fear

The limited education and conversations about mental health and illnesses leads many people to fear those that have mental illnesses. This fear comes from a fear of the unknown that could've been prevented by education early-on. Those that have a mental illness often face discrimination when trying to find employment, housing and good medical care because of this preventable fear.

Effects of Discrimination

The difficulty finding a stable job often combines with families that are clueless on how to help. All of this uncertainty results in a weak support system. Without the job, it is extremely hard for people with mental illnesses to get and afford the help they need.
